Duarte Nursery’s Annual Friends Day
Duarte Nursery, Inc. (DNI) announces its annual Friends Day on Friday, May 2nd, 2014. Friends Day will showcase DNI’s facilities expansion, range of product offerings, and innovative staff.
Friends Day is DNI’s customer appreciation day and open house. The event offers tours, an industry trade show, lunch, presentations, and wine tasting. Growers can take part in a Lab and Tree tour or Grapevine tour, which demonstrate the benefits of clean, clonal, containerized tree and grapevine production. Additionally, growers will be able to see the innovative products that Duarte Nursery grows, such as micropropagated clonal avocados.
The tours highlight the nursery expansion with new generation greenhouses that feature a steel over concrete concept to assure clean plants. The capital facilities expansion demonstrates the Duarte Family’s investment in California agriculture, as well as its commitment to a 100% containerized growing system.
During the tours, growers will also see DNI’s clean plant systems and the steps that are taken to assure growers are provided the cleanest plant material possible.
In addition to the tours, the trade show will feature more than 100 vendors from equipment exhibitors to wide range of agricultural trade companies.

John Duarte to Appear on Fox Business Network’s Stossel Show with John Stossel
John Duarte, President of Duarte Nursery, Inc. and Anthony Francois of Pacific Legal Foundation will appear on the Stossel Show with John Stossel on Thursday, April 17, 2014. The segment will cover the highly publicized case of Duarte Nursery, Inc. and John Duarte v. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The case covers the Duarte’s ability to farm their wheat land in Tehama near Red Bluff. In February, 2013 the Corps issued a cease and desist and a notice of violation accusing the Duartes of illegally farming wetlands. The Duarte family farmed the land with standard farming practices arguing that the Corps failed to use proper due process of the law to notify them of wetland farming concerns.
The Corps and the Environmental Protection Agency propose changes to the Clean Water Act, which has significant implications for farmers and ranchers. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued suggested changes that alter what “waters of the United States” means and the Clean Water Act’s unique word “navigable.” The Corps desires to expand their authority over wetlands, leaving farmers in dire situations with land that is unable to be properly farmed. This is abusive regulatory action over farm land. John Stossel will cover these details and the implications for what this means to all farmers that may be affected by a similar situation.
Tune in to the Stossel Show with John Stossel on Thursday, April 17 to learn more. For more information contact, Lily Penfold at email@example.com or you can call 209-531-0351. Additionally, you can also contact Pacific Legal Foundation, Anthony Francois at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 916-419-7111.
